Why did you decide you wanted to be a Radiation Therapist?
I chose to become a Radiation Therapist because I wanted a career that allows me to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
What is your role as a Radiation Therapist?
As a Radiation Therapist, my primary responsibility is to accurately deliver treatment plans prescribed by doctors. I also monitor patients for potential side effects and provide guidance and support throughout their treatment journey.
What is your typical day like?
A typical day for me begins at 8 am with a quality assurance check on our machine. After that, I review the day’s schedule, prepare for new cases, and check patient charts. Throughout the day, I deliver treatments, interact with patients, and monitor their treatment side effects.
What do you think are the most important traits a Radiation Therapist needs to have?
Empathy and understanding are essential traits for a Radiation Therapist. We must be able to connect with our patients on a personal level and truly understand their concerns in order to provide the best possible care.
What do you think patients most appreciate about you?
I strive to maximize patient comfort without compromising treatment accuracy. I believe this attention to detail and commitment to patient care is something that patients truly appreciate.
What is one thing you learned from working as a Radiation Therapist?
Working as a Radiation Therapist has taught me that life is precious and fleeting. It has reminded me of the importance of treating others with kindness because the memories we create and the love we share are the legacies that truly endure.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding moment is seeing the smile on a patient’s face on their last day of treatment. It brings a deep sense of accomplishment and joy, knowing we’ve made a positive impact on their life.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging aspect is the physical demands of the job. In the past, I experienced back strains from positioning patients. To overcome this, I started a regular gym routine to build strength and resilience, enabling me to provide the best care while maintaining my own well-being.
Tell us about one incident as a Radiation Therapist that left a deep impression on you.
Early in my career, I met a patient who was extremely anxious and fearful about his treatment. I took the time to talk with him, ease his worries, and build trust. Over time, he became more confident, and his family expressed their gratitude for my support. That experience taught me that even small acts of kindness can make a profound difference in someone’s life.
What do you like to do most when you have time away from your job?
I’m passionate about exploring new horizons. In my free time, I love to travel to exotic destinations, immersing myself in diverse cultures and ways of life. I’m also an avid scuba diver, drawn to the breathtaking beauty of the underwater world. Witnessing the incredible creations of nature leaves me in awe.
