In conjuction with 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 held last weekend 23- 25 Aug 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, AARO’s Dr David Tan and Dr Daniel Tan had the opportunity to deliver 2 presentations. It was a great opportunity to learn, and also reconnect with colleagues and meet new ones.

Dr. David Tan gave a talk at the Elekta Users Meeting to 100 regional and international attendees. He shared about the 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 (𝐒𝐁𝐑𝐓) 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 at the Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery (CSR) over the past 5 years and how through a diligent, evidence-based and multi-disciplinary approach, AARO has pushed the boundaries in Liver SBRT and achieved excellent local control and survival outcomes in patients with challenging and complex conditions who would otherwise had no other options for treatment

Dr Daniel Tan, along with a distinguished panel including Dr. John Christodouleas and Prof. Jun Won Kim, spoke on ‘𝐀 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭’

Dr Daniel shared on 𝐀𝐀𝐑𝐎’𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞-𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐲, 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩, 𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

Prof. Kim showcased his experience with the Unity MRI Linac, with over 1,000 cases treated and Dr. Christodouleas gave an insight into the future of AI-driven radiation oncology.

These are indeed exciting times for our field. AARO is very proud and privileged to be at the forefront of these developments.

Diagnosed with Stage 2 Prostate Cancer in Indonesia, Pak Tjugito Naslim, who has polio, was offered surgery to treat his condition. However, his family was concerned if he could tolerate general anesthesia, and Pak was also worried that the invasive procedure could cause side effects like incontinence and impotence. So, he started to look for alternative treatments.

His search led him to Asian Alliance Radiation and Oncology (AARO) in Singapore, which offered him SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy) - an established non-surgical curative option for prostate cancer.

Watch Mr Tjugito’s journey:)

For early breast cancer, recent studies have shown that Breast Conserving Therapy is associated with an equal, if not better, impact on survival than mastectomy. Links 🔗 to these articles are provided here ⬇️:

Hello. Dr Jason here. lets meet up. as a Nutrition support specialist for cancer and diabetes cases, i wish to learn your novel approach to breast cancer and sharecour effective DrPPARs approach to helping cancer cases. thanks. Looking forward to your openness and curiousity. 🙏🙏👍👍

Coment Please be updated that all insurance coverage (includes existing policies) for outpatient cancer treatment has been substantially controlled by the Ministry of Health with effect from 01 April 2023, though final decision on cancer coverage still lies on insurance companies. This significant reduction in coverage affects existing cancer patients as well. Please check through your existing insurance to ensure that you are still adequately covered for future unforeseen medical expenses relating to cancer as the revised coverage (even the highest tier) frm certain insurance companies may only be fairly sufficient for outpatient cancer treatment in Govt hospital. From my understanding, essential terms relating to this revised coverage: Cancer Drug Treatment >> Relates only to oncology medication on CDL Cancer Drug Services >> Relates to supporting medication, consultation, blood tests, scans, treatment preparation & admin charges etc, Generally, covers all other outpatient cancer treatment costs with the exclusion of oncology medication. Non-CDL Treatment >> This coverage does not cover all regular cancer treatment expenses. Ie. If your recommended cancer treatment fails and you need to try for alternate cancer treatment, this category of coverage will then be applicable to you. Hence, this category of coverage is basically “NA” for most outpatient cancer treatments. Please clarify with your insurance agents on this revised coverage to ensure you are adequately insured.
